AOC has introduced a new high-end gaming monitor, dubbed the Agon Optimus Ultra AGP277KXM. The 27-inch mini LED monitor features a 5K IPS panel with a peak refresh rate of 180 Hz, as well as a host of other features, making it quite an attractive option.
As mentioned, the 27-inch Fast IPS panel features a resolution of 5120 x 2880, allowing for an impressive pixel density of 218 ppi. At 5K, the panel can reach a peak refresh rate of 180 Hz. Gamers who prefer even faster panels can bump the refresh rate to a whopping 360 Hz by turning down the resolution to QHD.
The Optimus Ultra gaming monitor sports a total of 2,304 dimming zones, courtesy of its mini-LED backlight. This should allow for minimal haloing around bright objects in dark scenes while also improving contrast performance substantially. Of course, OLED panels with pixel-level dimming will be miles ahead in both of these aspects.
The AOC Agon Pro gaming monitor features dual mode functionality, which allows you to switch between 5K and QHD at 180 Hz and 360 Hz, respectively.
According to AOC's claims, the Agon Optimus Ultra monitor also features 98% coverage of the Adobe RGB and DCI-P3 color gamuts, and complete coverage of the more common sRGB color gamut. The company also claims excellent color accuracy with ΔE's below 1.
Brightness claims are also quite appealing, with 450 nits of peak full-screen brightness and 1,200 nits of HDR brightness. In even smaller areas, the brightness can reach up to an impressive 1,600 nits. Whether or not these numbers are true can only be verified once the product reaches reviewers' hands.
The IO on offer is also pretty generous, detailed below:
Ergonomic adjustments include -5° to 23° tilt, 90° pivot, 20° swivel, 150 mm of height.
The monitor is already listed on AOC's official website for China, although it is yet to appear on the company's global website. A Chinese launch is likely near, and if AOC's traditions are anything to go by, a global launch should follow soon after.
Gamers who require a new high-end 5K, mini LED gaming monitor sooner can check out the LG Ultragear 27GM950B-B, currently available for $900 on Amazon.
