Summary
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that state agencies are removing Flock automated license plate reader cameras from state right-of-ways, telling Eric Bolling on Friday, "We're going to clear the state right-of-ways." The removal applies to cameras used by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which reportedly targeted critics for surveillance, and the Florida Highway Patrol, which used them as part of an immigration dragnet, though DeSantis left open the possibility of limited continued use in immigration enforcement. DeSantis estimated that 98% of the roughly 7,500 license plate readers in Florida are operated locally and thus not covered by his directive. He also claimed that had Flock cameras been widely used during the COVID pandemic, President Biden would have used them to arrest people for "violating lockdowns, vax mandates, and vax passports." Earlier in the week, DeSantis called the cameras "out of control," citing numerous arrests of police officers charged with using the data to stalk women.
Florida Politics reports:
Florida will be clipping the wings of at least some Flock automated license plate reader cameras in the state. “Our agencies that had a few of them are bringing them down. We’re going to clear the state right-of-ways,” Gov. Ron DeSantis told Eric Bolling Friday.
While the Governor estimated that “98%” of the roughly 7,500 LPRs in Florida are local, his promise would cover controversial cameras used by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Florida Highway Patrol.
The wildlife agency reportedly targeted critics for surveillance, while the highway patrol has used the cameras as part of an immigration dragnet. DeSantis left an opening for continuing to use them in a limited way in immigration enforcement.

DeSantis went on to claim that if Flock cameras had been in widespread use during the COVID pandemic, Biden would have used them to arrest people for “violating lockdowns, vax mandates, and vax passports.”
Earlier this week DeSantis said Flock cameras are “out of control,” citing the many arrests of police officers charged with using the data to stalk women.
